Contact the Biochemistry for a special collection tube. These tubes are unstable and stored frozen

PTHrp must be approved by the chemical pathologist prior to collection (see diagnostic use)

Samples collected between 0800 and 1500 for delivery to the laboratory no later than 1600 Mon to Fri

Diagnostic Use Or Instructions

Please discuss with the chemical pathologist at Waikato hospital laboratory prior to requesting PTHrp. The main indication for measuring PTHrp is the presence of unexplained hypercalcemia AND a low or suppressed PTH. There are other rare indications. Testing is performed approximately every 4 months, which may limit the usefulness of the test in some patients. 

 

Additional Information

Frozen PTHrP  tube with collection instructions (Rollex Freezer - 3rd drawer) to be sent to ward.

Sample must be separated within 15 minutes.
